OVERVIEW

What is the primary purpose of the qualification?

The primary purpose of the qualification is to prepare for further learning and training.

The qualification will support you to progress to Level 3 studies which would enable you to enter your chosen field of employment at a higher level. As a learner you can also use this to progress direct to employment in business management or computing.

The qualification enables learners to combine vocational units in business management or computing as well as generic study skills units with optional Maths and English which support the approach of further study, employment after further study or direct employment.

Who is this qualification for?

The qualification is specifically for you if you wish to progress to further study at Level 3 through either an apprenticeship or to an Access to HE Diploma which will then enable you to enter your chosen field of employment in business management or computing at a higher level.

It also gives you the option to progress direct to employment in business management or computing.

What prior qualifications/levels of attainment does a learner need to take this qualification?

There are no specific entry requirements.

The qualification is suitable for learners who are aged 16 and over.

What is the content of the qualification?

The NOCN Level 2 Certificate in Skills for Employment and Study in Business Management and Computing is a nationally recognised qualification. You must achieve 30 credits in total to achieve this qualification. There are three mandatory groups of units and one optional group.

You can choose one of the following disciplines which gives you an overview of your chosen area:

  • Business Studies
  • Computer Studies
  • Law
  • Politics

You will then be required to take units from a range of vocational units which support your chosen future path into employment following further study. These are in the disciplines of Business Studies, Computer Studies, Law and Politics.

The final mandatory group of units are study skills which will support your existing studies such as understanding plagiarism and delivering a presentation. However there are also units in this group such Research Skills and Critical Thinking Skills which will prepare you for Level 3 study.

You will also have the option to complete additional units in English and mathematics.

WHAT COULD THIS QUALIFICATION LEAD TO?

 Will the qualification lead to employment, and if so, in which job role and at what level?

The main purpose of this qualification is to progress to further study before entering employment. You could progress directly into a number of job roles in business management or computing. In business management these roles could be as a Team Coordinator, Helpdesk Manager or Trainee Supervisor. In computing these roles could be as a Support Technician, Website Administrator or Helpdesk Professional.

You also have the opportunity to take on further study and therefore to enter into job roles at a higher level following Level 3 and above study.

This qualification focuses on skills and knowledge relevant to business management and computing and is between 50% and 72% vocational learning.

Will the qualification support progression to further learning, if so, what to?

This is the main focus of the qualification which is to progress to further study at Level 3 through either an apprenticeship or to an Access to HE Diploma which will then enable you to enter your chosen field of employment in business management or computing at a supervisory/management.
