Nominated by Julia Meredith, Middlesbrough College

Whitney has had a difficult year in her personal life but has not allowed this to impact on her commitment to learning. She has managed to juggle the demands of the Access to Humanities and Social Sciences course with being a single parent to her young son who has been undergoing tests; a worrying time. She is also an advocate for her father who has round the clock care for a very serious condition. She has worked tirelessly to support him, visiting him regularly in Darlington, which made it even more of an achievement when she secured a place at Teesside University to study a Degree in Social Work.

Whitney is extremely resolute and hardworking; fully aware of the commitment needed to succeed. She is flourishing academically on the course, achieving merits and distinctions, and can often be found working in the Learning Resource Centre to ensure her work is of the highest standard. She has never missed a deadline. She is a conscientious, meticulous and diligent student who will be a great ambassador for Middlesbrough College at Teesside University
