Student's Choice Award - Winner, Dennese Bloomer, Bishop Auckland College
25th June 2014 Date of publication
Dennese receives her award from Louise Morritt, Chief Executive and Ray Snowdon, Chair at One Awards
Nominated by Bryony Round, student at Bishop Auckland College
Dennese is an outstanding, passionate tutor who has gone above and beyond duty all year to support her students.
When we first learned that for our History course we would be studying WW2, Dennese raised the idea of going to Poland to visit Auschwitz in order for us to fully understand the gravity of what we were learning. After a few months of fundraising (which Dennese supported and helped us with in her own time) it became evident that our goal would not be met and the visit would not be possible, rather than becoming disheartened Dennese instead organised a visit to Nottingham where would be able to speak with a survivor of the Holocaust.
Dennese understands that we are mature students and treats us as such; no matter what the subject Dennese will find a way to make the learning fun.She delivers in ways which really portray her passion, which in turn is passed down to us as students and we carry that into our other subjects.
Dennese is also extremely supportive in helping us keep on track, especially when personal issues arise.No-one escapes her inclusive and caring approach and she always does what she can to help us.She is an inspiration to her students and a credit to teaching. Dennese has made my transition from being a carer with not much more than GCSEs, to a student prepared for university life.
